German quintet Missouri mix lo-fi programming and keyboards with sparse slide guitar. Yes, it is a strange idea but it does work surprisingly well. This concoction brings the album a very cinematic atmosphere, particularly on tracks like Laughing Over My Grave and In Times Like These They Make Men Like Me. Across it’s 47 minutes the pace of the album builds, reaching its peak on the poppy, Daft Punk-esque singalong, Let’s Get Married. Reaching its end on the beautiful ballad Lord I’m Ready this is a brilliantly different and clever album that will have you screaming for more. (AM)
