For the past five years, sell out crowds have seen performances from Lambchop, Orbital, Royksopp, Goldfrapp, Calexico, Bloc Party, PJ Harvey, Lemon Jelly, Doves, Sigur Ros, Super Furry Animals, Belle & Sebastian, Air, Jose Gonzalez, Erykah Badu, Basement Jaxx, and Prodigy, amongst others. It is a chance for everyone to see exciting innovative artists in an utterly unique location. Somerset House has developed into an essential destination for music lovers from across London and beyond. This year’s Summer Series at Somerset House will be no exception….
This year London’s premiere open air venue has been programmed by Alex Poots, Tom Baker, and Raye Cosbert of Metropolis. In 2007 Somerset House welcomes Mogwai, Kasabian, Bert Jansch with Beth Orton and Bernard Butler, Guillemots, Lily Allen, Mika, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Roots, Amy Winehouse and Hot Chip. Mogwai open the programme with their first ever performance in Surround Sound – which promises to be very special indeed. The Summer Series also welcomes home four young artists from London that have been making shockwaves around the world; Mika, Amy Winehouse, Hot Chip and Lily Allen. Guillemots, The Roots and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are all incendiary live acts, while one of the godfathers of modern music, legendary guitarist and songwriter Bert Jansch performs a special evening of old and new songs with guests Beth Orton and Bernard Butler. This is an imaginative and distinctive line-up. Support acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
Raye Cosbert, Summer Series programmer comments: “The courtyard at Somerset House has shown itself to be one of the best venues in the country for live music of all persuasions. It seems to bring out the best in every artist that plays there. This year’s promises to be very special.”
