Those Avalanches have written on their website all of the following words about their long awaited new album (trendy music types, by the way, don’t have much time for capital letters or apostrophes, or so it seems):
“happy new year yall. we’ve made a heap of mixes and stuff available while we finish the record. they wont give you a hint of the new albums magical sound unfortunately, but they will keep you pilgrims well nourished until the next harvest. its a really thrilling time for us right now as this record comes together, its so fuckin party you will die, much more hip hop than you might expect, and while there is still no accurate estimated time of arrival, were sure you’re gonna love it when it arrives. much of last year was spent cutting up the spoken word/instructional records we need to tell the albums musical story, and we have some 40 odd songs we’re narrowing down and finishing. so its real, it exists, and you know we wouldn’t be serving anything up unless it was gonna give you that same special feeling that since has. funnily enough its ended up sounding like the next logical step to since, we just had to go around in a big circle to get back to where we belong. and one day when you least expect it you’ll wake up and the sample fairy will have left it under your pillow. so big up to clint for all his work in making the downloads available for everyone to enjoy, and have a great oh seven”.

Modular have been in touch and wanted to get some things straight…
“In breaking news, we have to apologise to all those hearts we broke last week when we joked that we’d rejected The Avalanches’ second album because it sounded rushed and that we’re sending them back into the studio. It caused much distress to expectant fans and we didn’t realize it would be picked up all over the place as a feature news story, basically the whole thing got a tad out of hand (although North Korea’s response did seem a little extreme). We gently rib the guys like this on a monthly basis to hurry them along but of course they’ll hand the record in when they’re good and ready, and to be honest if they handed in a tape of fart samples we’d put it out no questions asked. Anyways word is its not far off and according to those collaborators who’ve heard bits and bobs its sounding like everything we dared not hope for, and so much more. They’ve made the record of their lives basically. In the mean time prepare your self with a hot cup of valium for the sleepy, creepy wonkiness that is their remix of Franz Ferdinand’s ‘Fade Together’ available now on the single ‘Eleanor Put Your Boots On’.”
So there you go.

The Avalanches’ second album, the follow-up to the band’s 2001 debut ‘Since I Left You’, has had its release date put back, apparently because it wasn’t up to scratch. The group’s label Modular announced in a recent mail-out: “We finally took receipt of the long-awaited follow up to the smashing ‘Since I Left You’ the other week. We listened to it over and over, but to be honest, the whole thing sounded kinda rushed. Rather than push out a half-arsed, less than thought out sophomore album, we’ve sent them back to the studio to spend a little more time on it. Fingers crossed they get it right this time.”
Rushed? They’ve had five years.
