Elliott Smith’s New Moon out soon

- album out 7 May 2007 on Domino -

New Moon On May 7, 2007, Domino will release a double CD of music by Elliott Smith entitled New Moon. The album contains 24 songs recorded 1995-1997, a prolific time in Smith’s career, when he recorded his self-titled album and Either/Or (both also released by Domino).

Arguably the most gifted song-writer of his generation, Elliott Smith produced a large body of work that includes five solo albums, as well as From a Basement on the Hill (2004), a collection of songs completed before his death in 2003. Like his other work, New Moon reflects the power of Smith’s ability to integrate rich, melodic music with poetic, multi-layered lyrics.

The final mixing for the double cd was done by Larry Crane, who is the archivist for the estate of Elliott Smith. A significant portion of proceeds from the album sales will go directly to Outside In, a Portland-based social service organization dedicated to providing diverse services for homeless youth and low-income adults.

Sessions - Mixed by D Ramirez out May 14

tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , and

Sessions - D. Ramirez Following 2007 successes with Fedde le Grand and Mark Knight, Ministry of Sound are very proud to have Dean mixing a Sessions album…

D.Ramirez (aka Dean Marriott) is one of the hottest properties in Dance music today, with three top twenty singles to his name (including a number 5!) you could easily be mistaken that his music is big, simple and made for the masses. But far from it, Dean has become one of the most bankable remixers on the planet and is currently regarded as one of the most credible producers around.

The biggest development in Deans career came in the late 90’s when he felt he had done all he could with the funky house sound he’d been tagged with and became enthused in the New York tribal sound that was re-emerging. The D.Ramirez moniker was born! Armed with a new guise and a new sound, Dean dropped a string of fantastic releases that led to a frenzy of signings on labels such as Yoshitoshi, Junior, Underwater, Choo Choo, Phonetic, Thrust, Whoop!, Lot 49, Four:Twenty and Toolroom.

Dean also runs his own label Slave Recordings. Now up to the tenth release and with countless radio plays and DJ support, Slave has established itself as one of the most respected, Underground labels, and amazingly Dean also finds time to DJ all over the world in the finest arenas the clubbing world has to offer.

2006 was a massive year for D.Ramirez with underground and chart success with his remix of Bodyrox ‘Yeah Yeah’, stella remixes for Roger Sanchez, Ferry Corsten & The Plump DJs and his own release ‘La Discotek’ which made Dean the producer on everybody’s lips, in fact IDJ named him #4 Player of Year!

With his Sessions mix, Dean places an array of current tracks in the mix including releases from Swedish boys Axwell and Steve Angello, Nathan Fake, Tim Deluxe and Roger Sanchez amongst others and his own remixes and exclusives from his Slave recordings label. It’s a very strong mix and one of the finest ‘Sessions’ to date.
Dean is now touring and will be taking him from Hometown of Sheffield to Glastonbury, Ibiza, Australia and beyond. There will be an official Launch Party at Ministry of Sound.

The Go-Betweens Tribute album in progress

tagged , , , , , , and

Oceans Apart From CMU “A new tribute album to influential Brisbane indie rockers The Go-Betweens has been announced, and it’s set to feature contributions from Australian artists such as Dan Kelly, Sarah Blasko and Glenn Richards. ‘Write Your Adventures Down’ will get an Australian release via SonyBMG imprint The Red Label in June - no word yet on a UK release.

As I’m sure you all remember, because you’re all very old, the duo of Robert Forster and Grant McLennan’s main period of activity ran from 1977 to 1989 and was adored by critics, but didn’t impact hugely on the public. They reunited in 2000 and won an ARIA award for their final album ‘Oceans Apart‘, released in 2005. McLennan, as previously reported, died last year from a heart attack.”
