!!! (Chk Chk Chk) release ‘Must Be The Moon’

tagged , , , , , , , , , , and

Myth Takes [VINYL] !!! - “Must Be The Moon” on 12″ and download on 14 May 2007 via Warp Records

!!!’s new single, “Must Be The Moon,” is all about sex - about trying to get the girl, about trying to get the boy, about whether either wants to be got and about everything that follows on from that; the good the bad and the failed. A universal anthem for every teenager in the country in pursuit of some action come Friday night; “Must Be The Moon” is your new favourite record!

!!!’s new album, “Myth Takes,” scrutinises the hoary old myths of rock ‘n’ roll excess, slams them up against the ancient myths which still fire our imagination and waits to see what comes out the other end. In the case of “Must Be The Moon” the story is told of one guy getting lucky in a club after a number of drinks, going home with the good-time girl of his wildest fantasies, only to awaken to find out that she’s had to finish herself off while he was snoring. As lead singer Nic Offer puts it, “Moon myth intact, Casanova deflated.”

The lyrics for “Must Be The Moon” are delivered in sing song, nursery rhyme style by Offer in a way which both comments on and buys into the excesses of hip hop without sounding like he really means it (”It’s all beginning to sound like a rap.”) The backing, meanwhile, is the taut, wiry hardcore rock-disco for which !!! are rightly lauded.

Remixes from Hot Chip and Emperor Machine respectively beef up and strip down the original for the dancefloors whilst uber-cool Brazilians CSS are rumoured to be going one further with a reply to Offer’s man-take on the whole one night stand phenomenon….we’ll keep you posted!

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

“Must Be The Moon,” will be released on the next full moon, which also happens to be the ancient fertility festival off Beltane. Put away your dictionary of technical musicspeak, take your finger from your chin, change into a t-shirt and shorts that are slightly too small for you, get up on the sofa, pop the !!! single into place, press play and let it all go. Throw some moves, have fun, dare to enjoy yourself. You never know, you might even get lucky…!!! will be playing the following festivals over the summer: Glastonbury, Reading / Leeds and Summer Sundae with more to be announced.

Sessions - Mixed by D Ramirez out May 14

tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , and

Sessions - D. Ramirez Following 2007 successes with Fedde le Grand and Mark Knight, Ministry of Sound are very proud to have Dean mixing a Sessions album…

D.Ramirez (aka Dean Marriott) is one of the hottest properties in Dance music today, with three top twenty singles to his name (including a number 5!) you could easily be mistaken that his music is big, simple and made for the masses. But far from it, Dean has become one of the most bankable remixers on the planet and is currently regarded as one of the most credible producers around.

The biggest development in Deans career came in the late 90’s when he felt he had done all he could with the funky house sound he’d been tagged with and became enthused in the New York tribal sound that was re-emerging. The D.Ramirez moniker was born! Armed with a new guise and a new sound, Dean dropped a string of fantastic releases that led to a frenzy of signings on labels such as Yoshitoshi, Junior, Underwater, Choo Choo, Phonetic, Thrust, Whoop!, Lot 49, Four:Twenty and Toolroom.

Dean also runs his own label Slave Recordings. Now up to the tenth release and with countless radio plays and DJ support, Slave has established itself as one of the most respected, Underground labels, and amazingly Dean also finds time to DJ all over the world in the finest arenas the clubbing world has to offer.

2006 was a massive year for D.Ramirez with underground and chart success with his remix of Bodyrox ‘Yeah Yeah’, stella remixes for Roger Sanchez, Ferry Corsten & The Plump DJs and his own release ‘La Discotek’ which made Dean the producer on everybody’s lips, in fact IDJ named him #4 Player of Year!

With his Sessions mix, Dean places an array of current tracks in the mix including releases from Swedish boys Axwell and Steve Angello, Nathan Fake, Tim Deluxe and Roger Sanchez amongst others and his own remixes and exclusives from his Slave recordings label. It’s a very strong mix and one of the finest ‘Sessions’ to date.
Dean is now touring and will be taking him from Hometown of Sheffield to Glastonbury, Ibiza, Australia and beyond. There will be an official Launch Party at Ministry of Sound.

Shirley Bassey to release new single with Never The Bride

tagged , , , and

Shirley Bassey is set to release a single for the first time in ten years to mark her 70th birthday, collaborating with rock band Never The Bride on a track called ‘The Living Tree’. The singer is also reportedly considering the offer of a set at Glastonbury, and is due to release an album of remixed
tracks.

Explaining how the collaboration came about, Never The Bride’s Nikki Lamborn described how she and bandmate Catherine Feeney found themselves staying at a Monaco hotel patronised by Bassey, and so left a copy of their CD and a letter for her. A few weeks later, they received a call from Bassey’s manager.

Lamborn: “We didn’t write it with Shirley Bassey in mind, but the way it came out, we always said, ‘Wouldn’t it be amazing if this could end up being a Bond song?’ You know how you have these little dreams? We just kept pinching ourselves. It was stunning. My heart was in my mouth because I’m such a fan. She really goes for it, sweat was lashing off her. I think her voice is even better now than she’s been in the past.”

The Only Ones Back For ATP

tagged , , , , , , , , , and

Indigo Flow report: There have been several unlikely reunions over the last few weeks (The Police, two thirds of The Jam) but the most unlikely so far is The Only Ones, who have confirmed that they will perform at All Tomorrow’s Parties in April, curated by Dirty Three. The show will be the band’s first performance in twenty two years and is unlikely because band founder Peter Perrett has previously said that it would happen “over my dead body”, while guitarist John Perry backed him up, offering that England would win the Ashes 5-0 before The Only Ones played together again. More recently, however, the success of their 1977 single Another Girl, Another Planet in a Vodafone TV ad campaign has stepped up public demand for the band to return to the stage. It’s now speculated that they will also appear at this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Dirty Three’s All Tomorrow’s Parties weekend is due to take place at Butlins in Minehead from the 27th to the 30th of April. Other acts so far confirmed include Nick Cave, Magnolia Electric Company, Spritualized, Joanna Newsom, Yann Tiersen and Cat Power.

Glasto pre-registration site is up

tagged , , , , , , , , and

Thousands of people have already registered with the Glastonbury Festival after their registration site went live yesterday.

As I’m sure we’ve mentioned previously, the online registration does not involve the purchase or even reservation of actual tickets, rather it means that potential ticket holders register their name, address and phone number with the festival, and upload a photo of themselves. Should they then secure tickets when they go on sale on 1 Apr, those tickets will be assigned to their personal details and photo, so that only they will be able to use the tickets to access the festival site when it opens on 20 June, ie ensuring people cannot sell tickets on at a profit.

Explaining the new registration system, Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis told reporters: “It’s a much fairer system. It means unscrupulous people won’t be able to sell their tickets on for a profit. The people who buy the tickets on April 1 will be the people who are actually coming to the festival. I assure you that your details will not be used for any other purpose”.

Fans have until the end of the month to register online, or by using postal forms available at UK camping supplies retail chain Millets. The three day festival, which took a year off last year of course, returns in June with The Who, Arctic Monkeys and Bjork already confirmed to play.

Kylie NOT playing Glasto 2007

tagged , , , , , , and

Showgirl - HomecomingNME.com reports that Emily Eavis has said “It’s just not going to happen”. Kylie Minogue, previously thought to be headlining the closing day of the festival, is not set to play Glastonbury 2007 according to Emily Eavis.

“(Kylie)’s got a lot of touring up her sleeve and I think if she was going to do Glastonbury, she’d rework her show and I don’t think it’s going to be possible in that time frame. It’s just not going to happen,” explained Emily. Eavis also told BBC 6 Music that the returning festival would not be “dominated by headliners”.

“We’ve got really good stuff coming in. But there’s not going to be dominating headliners. We’ve got such a good wealth of stuff coming in through.
