So, it is Brits time once more, and here, ladies and gentlemen are the nominations for this year’s awards, as announced at a little soiree for music types at the Hammersmith Palais just there last night. The full list of nominations is below.
Lily Allen led the field being that she is up for four of the twelve awards available, including Best Female Solo Artist, Best Breakthrough Artist, Best British Album for ‘Alright Still’ and Best Single for ‘Smile’.
Meanwhile, a number of artists received three nominations, including Muse, up for Best British Group, Best British Album and Best British Live Act, and Gnarls Barkley, nominated in the international Best Group, Best Album and Breakthrough categories.
Corinne Bailey Rae, James Morrison and Snow Patrol also each got three nominations, with all three competing with Allen for the Best British Single prize, a category which has eleven nominees this year, from which five favourites will be selected by listeners to commercial radio chart shows.
The ITV audience will then get to vote for an overall winner from that five as the awards show airs live on 14 February.
The awards show will be presented by that Russell Brand bloke with ITV’s back stage coverage presented by Fearne Cotton. Live performance wise, Brits bosses are promising us Snow Patrol, Scissor Sisters, The Killers, Take That, Corinne Bailey Rae, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amy Winehouse and Oasis, the latter of whom, of course, will be in attendance to pick up an Outstanding Contribution To Music award.
Commenting on the nominations, Peter Jamieson, soon to be ex boss of the BPI, who organise the awards, told CMU: “Music is one of the things that the British do well.
