Some Velvet Morning new single news, tour news and video links

tagged , , , , , , , , and

Single Released: 4th June 2007

Some Velvet Morning release ‘Settle Down’ on June 4th through RhythmBank Entertainment. This is the follow up to debut single Losing My Mind which garnered XFM, Total Rock and Kerrang! playlists, and a buzz of interest from all who caught this great band live, not to mention Nancy Sinatra being moved to comment on the band who nicked their name from her classic duet with Lee Hazlewood. Some Velvet Morning are Des Lambert (Vocal, Guitar), Gavin Lambert (Bass) and Rob Flanagan (Drums).

‘Settle Down’ is a sultry brooding rock n roll gem, raw and edgy and a sublime example of their 70s rock reinvented for the indie 07s. Musicianship, mood and melody all combining for this perfect 3 minute pop nugget.

Some Velvet Morning were formed after a chance meeting in London’s tin-pan alley, Denmark Street, where they were testing out different guitars. After a smattering of shows across the nation’s capital, in Beatles-esq style, they de-bunked to Europe to hone their skills, spending a sultry summer playing all-nighters on the French Riviera.

Within months of their return to the UK Some Velvet Morning came to the attention of a certain Vicki Wickham of New York indie label RhythmBank Entertainment. Vicki, having produced seminal UK TV Show Ready, Steady Go which launched such legendary artists as The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding and The Who onto the UK public and latterly managed the likes of Dusty Springfield, Marc Almond and Morrissey.. could be said to know her music. She fell in love with Some Velvet Morning and signed them.

Some Velvet Morning have completed recording their debut album produced by Rik Simpson (Kasabian / Coldplay) and Mike Pelanconi (Lilly Allen / Graham Coxon) and is due for release in the summer.

With single Settle Down due out on June 4th, the album to follow and radio already picking up on this very special band, it looks like Some Velvet Morning are set to have a very good year.

Dinosaur Jr UK gigs and single release

tagged , , , , , , , , , and

Cover ArtDinosaur Jr release a single on April 23rd 2007. “Been There All The Time” will is available on a limited quantity of 7” vinyl, and as a download. The b-side is “Back to Your Heart”.

“Been There All The Time” was written by J. Mascis and “Back To Your Heart” was written by Lou Barlow. Both tracks were recorded at J Mascis’s Bisquiteen Studios and are taken from the band’s forthcoming album “Beyond”.
After recording three albums, “Dinosaur”, “Bug” and “You’re Living All Over Me” Dinosaur Jr. single-handedly moved the indie scene from the rigid ideology and rapid fire bursts of hardcore and post-punk into a new era of introspective yet no less powerful expression. After the release of “Bug” the original trio of J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph imploded.

Fast forward to 2005: a tentative reunion was undertaken to support the re-issues; a TV show here, a club appearance and some Japanese dates there. In the 16 years since the band had toured a lot had changed. The mix of influences and the sheer volume of the music were no longer a semiotic problem for fans, the band members had grown up and become stronger songwriters. The band curated their own day at All Tomorrow’s Parties in May 06, and then appeared again at the Thurston Moore curated event in December, where they had to play two sets to accommodate the number of people that wanted to see them. “It was almost like they’d been reborn as a hardcore band” says Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth).

Dinosuar Jr have just announced the following live dates:

June 26 in London at Scala
June 27 in Amsterdam at Paradiso
June 28 in Fribourg at Fri-Son
June 30 in Berlin at Paradiso

Shy Child’s Noise Won’t Stop out 7th May with new video, plus Klaxons tour!

tagged , , , , , , , , , and

The title track from the forthcoming new album, Noise Won’t Stop is the perfect primer for the thrills awaiting on Shy Child’s new long-player, with this new single due out on 7th May 2007.

Noise Won\'t Stop A two-man sonic armada, Shy Child are Pete Cafarella and Nate Smith – a New York-based keys & drums duo, capable of making a towering bombardment of sound, larger than that of bands numbering five times as many members. A combination of dance music energy and virtuoso musicianship, they stand out from their peers with their blend of rock energy, fat throbbing synths and hip-hop beats – as perhaps the White Stripes might sound were Jack influenced by Kraftwerk as much as he was Led Zeppelin. And replaced Meg with Clyde Stubblefield.

Noise Won’t Stop sees Nate’s prodigious drumming talent brought to the fore with a performance that redefines ‘funky’, whilst Pete bombards you with fizzing electronic gut-punches ensuring you will dance to this track whether you want to or not. The B-side, Cause & Effect also comes from the forthcoming album (released 21st May) produced by Chris Zane: a gradually building track with a more conventional house beat, though no less funky, with Pete’s synths swelling up to a furious crescendo.

With Pete employing the much-derided ‘keytar’ and an inordinate number of effects pedals to accompany Nate’s inhuman breaks, Shy Child’s live shows have been a key facet in their appeal to UK audiences, who took to them immediately: “I like the energy of those kids going crazy and having fun,” says Nate. “The reaction we get is a lot stronger than in America where the crowds tend to be more reserved.” They can also count Hot Chip among that established UK fanbase, with the Mercury-nominees long-time fans and comrades on an extensive US tour. With Noise Won’t Stop the album imminent, Shy Child will be cementing that reputation with a run of UK shows right through the Spring, including a full UK tour as main support to the Klaxons.

tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , and

Highly acclaimed, Ivor Novello award winning songwriter, Iain Archer releases a new single Minus Ten through PIAS / Wall Of Sound’s We Love You imprint on Monday March 19th.

Minus Ten is taken from Archer’s latest album Magnetic North, which garnered much critical applause on its release in October. Q Magazine enthused “Archer has a catch to his voice that makes it sound like he cares desperately about every last word.” Mojo raved “Upbeat indie pop gems - evocative, windswept romantic in the Sufjan Stevens mould.” And Uncut added “Bracingly dolorous fingerpicking songcraft - a record that’s bravely unsentimental in worrying at emotional and political troubles.”

The Feeling drop debut US release

tagged , , , , , , , , and

Twelve Stops and Home coming out on Interscope/Cherrytree Records

The much anticipated debut release Twelve Stops and Home from the U.K. quintet, The Feeling will be released February 27th, on Interscope/Cherrytree Records. The full-length release includes the very well known single “Sewn,” which was a favorite amongst many on their EP Four Stops and Home.

The Feeling delivers an amalgam of harmonic melodies and catchy choruses that reaches full fruition on Twelve Stops and Home. The release ranges from the classics of The Beatles and The Stones, to the more esoteric with the likes of ABBA and the Pet Shop Boys, and not forgetting the timelessness of Cole Porter and Harold Arlen.

The album’s title refers to the number of subway stops on the “Blue Picadilly” line in the Journey from Dan Gillespies’ home in London’s outskirts to the center of the city, and also to the listener’s voyage through the disc’s 12 tracks.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on a copy of Twelve Stops and Home, and a chance to see them live, check out the audio for their first single, “Sewn.”
